Complex desktop survey tools had to work on a phone—without losing power. The Create UI, the first screen of survey building, needed the same care.
The challenge
You can’t shrink an enterprise dashboard and call it mobile. Post-acquisition security also required a better authentication path. I focused on the mobile app almost from scratch, working with security on a Magic Link flow that was strict enough for sensitive survey data and still usable on a phone.
I inherited Create UI—the first thing people see when they build a survey from scratch or a template—and treated it as a product of its own. High-fidelity prototypes and testing showed how people actually create surveys, not how a spec assumed they would.
The solution
Mobile dashboards prioritize frequent tasks. Progressive disclosure keeps advanced tools available without clutter. Magic Link removed clumsy mobile passwords without weakening security.
Create UI got a clearer template path and a more logical build-from-scratch flow. Prototypes were specified tightly enough that the live UI matched them. The work is in production for Qualtrics customers; later Northstar mobile work built on that foundation.
